Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting!

A call to all Norse parents...current and previous.  We are in the midst of our recruiting this year and we would love for you to become a part of the process.  Our recruits are spread out all over the mid-west and beyond.

We would love to have you write an email or letter to the parents of one recruit or more if you feel the need.   Topics would include talking about your experience as a Luther Swim & Dive parent; from the process of recruiting, selecting schools, decision process, and most of all the experience your child is having at Luther academically and on the Team. It would also be great to talk about how awesome the parent group is for LSD!

Please let myself or Coach Besty know if you are interested in helping us out in this way.  We can send you names of the recruits in your area...or if you have names of swimmers or divers that you feel would be a great fit, please let us know.

We have a recruit weekend on December 10th, our next home meet vs St. Mary's University. We would like to get many recruits here at that date and also in January for our main recruit weekend.

Hope to hear from you all soon.  GO NORSE!

Simpson Meet Dinner...YOU'RE INVITED!

Dear Luther Swim Families and Friends,

Welcome to the 2010-2011 season’s first meet to be held at Simpson College on Saturday October 30th at 1 pm. The Luther swim parents and swimming alums of Central Iowa are inviting the parents, families and friends who attend the meet to join our swimmers for dinner afterward.

We have arranged for the Simpson College catering staff to provide a buffet meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and vegetables and beverages. We are asking the families that attend to bring the desserts. Please bring items that are easy to transport and easy to serve like fruit, cupcakes, bars, cookies etc. Any leftover food desserts can be sent back on the bus with the swimmers for snacks for their 5-hour drive back to Decorah.

The meal will be served in the Pioneer Conference Room (1st floor east end of the building) located in McNeill Hall which is located directly east of the Cowles Fieldhouse (which is where the pool is located.) The buildings are easy walking distance from each other. We are anticipating the meal will begin immediately after the meet. There is a parking lot located on the south side of the McNeill building. A campus map is attached to this email.

The host families will pay for the swimmers, coaches and trainers (all are welcome to contribute if you wish). We are asking everyone else to pay $10 a person for the cost of their meals. Please bring your cash or checks to the meal but we do need to have your RSVP in advance so we can order the correct number of meals.

Please RSVP by Tuesday October 26 to Jule Thorsen at jule.thorsen@simpson.edu

Hope to see many of you there!

OWN IT!

So far our season has been nothing but spectacular.  We have accomplished more out of the pool early in the season than most teams desire to do in their entire season!  Coach Gilbertson was the sole organizer and planner to get our Team to Hammond, MN to help with the flood clean up.  The day was quick but we certainly made a huge difference.  If you have not yet seen the release click here.  There is nothing more honorable than helping families in need..especially when their lives have been flipped upside down by a horrible flood.

We also get to enjoy the amazing impact each of the swimmers and divers have on the kids in our community by the lesson program we run every fall and spring.  We came up with the idea to have a non-perishable food item donated, up to five, to receive $5 off the cost of the lessons.  Never did we imagine it would make such an amazing impact at the local food pantry.  Myself and Betsy have received so many compliments on the Team for the great job and positive impact they have on the children.  To assist in providing food for the pantry just makes the lessons that much more enjoyable to offer the community.

And last, but not least, we just completed our 2010 Mental Toughness.  A time when things get just a bit strange, yet challenging at the same time.  We saw a team become a TEAM by every definition.  The evening is more than just a fun filled night of team bonding....it is an evening of leadership, challenges,  and a great beginning to the final chapter of the notable careers the seniors have experienced.

My family and I look forward to what the season will bring us, as we know you are as well.  My appreciation for Luther College, Decorah, and this Team is now bigger than ever.  Get ready for an awesome year.  This is our moment...we will OWN IT!

Go Norse!
